American Innovations Develops New Surge Protector for Bullhorn

AUSTIN, TX – December 20, 2002: Bullhorn®, American Innovations’ low-cost wireless monitoring system, checks inputs from equipment remotely and provides automatic notification of alarm events by fax, page, or e-mail. Bullhorn uses Aeris.net™, an inexpensive cellular control channel network, to communicate wirelessly. The device monitors all kinds of remote equipment including pumps, storage tanks, compressors, cell towers and gas, water and electric meters – and much more.

The Surge Protector is designed to greatly enhance Bullhorn’s resistance to high voltage surges from lightning or other sources. This type of protection is particularly important to installations on pipelines or pipeline rectifiers, which are susceptible to lightning strikes. Two surge protectors are offered for use with Bullhorn equipment; the SP2 with 2 channels and the SP4 with 4 channels.

This device is an extraordinary compliment to the surge protection already provided by AI Rectifier Interfaces. These surge protectors have been tested for use with all Bullhorn and AI Rectifier Interface combinations. The surge suppression device is basically invisible to the line, and therefore, has no impact on the reading. It has ultra fast response time (as little as 8µSec), is self-resetting, provides multi-staged protection with hard clamping at surges above 190V and can sink up to 20kA with the proper grounding. The enclosure for the product is NEMA 4X compliant.
